Reiki – pronounced RAY-key. Reiki is a Japanese word consisting of two kanji characters – Rei means universal, also referring to the spiritual dimension and soul and ki means the vital life-force energy of life. So, think of its whole meaning as the universal life-force which flows in, through and around everything. Reiki originated in ancient Tibet and was rediscovered in modern times by Dr. Mikao Usui in the early 1900’s. Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive method of therapeutic touch – a laying-on of the practitioner’s hands – onto a series of body points that increases a person’s vital life-force energy, releases blockages of energy, accelerates the body’s ability to heal and restores balance in the body, mind and spirit.

During a session, the client lies down and rests on a massage table fully clothed while the practitioner places their hands on strategic points of the client’s body, especially focusing on the client’s specific areas which need healing.

The benefits of Reiki are immense. And it is a modality that not only addresses physical aches and pains, but mental, emotional and spiritual ones, as well. Reiki can be integrated with any type of standard care or as a stand-alone treatment in any situation where relaxation and stress reduction, health and balance, pain relief (physical or emotional) or enhanced healing would be desired.
